  • New features
  • Improvement in code writing

  • and also bug fixing

So this is rational to keep your theme updated to the latest version. Your content and theme options will not be lost in theme update. So feel free and install most recent version of Publisher theme ASAP.

It is highly recommended to create a backup of your website before updating theme or even WordPress. Create backup of both “WordPress” and “Database” in the case of any failure.

How to Update Publisher Theme?

In this section you learn three different methods for updating Publisher; using FTP and directly update from WordPress Dashboard (by uploading theme zip file) is possible but the easiest is receiving theme from BetterStudio servers by just one click in your theme panel.

1- Update Theme Automatically by 1 Click

Publisher includes an exclusive theme updater and you should register theme for using it. After activating theme, when new version releases, a notification appears on Appearance → Themes page and it’s possible to update with only 1 click.

Read the Theme registration tutorial to activate your theme.

Please note it is possible update notification doesn’t show up automatically sometimes. If you want to make sure you wouldn’t miss new version, go to Appearance → Themes, if new version has been released, after seconds or minutes you see the notification in admin pages. Another way is checking Publisher page on ThemeForest.

2- Update Theme Via FTP

  1. Go to wp-content → themes location and backup your Publisher theme folder by saving it to your computer, or you can choose to simply delete it. Your content and theme options will not be lost.
  2. Retrieve the publisher.zip file from your new ThemeForest downloaded (only theme file) and extract the file to get the Publisher theme folder.
  3. Then simply drag and drop the new Publisher theme folder into wp-content → themes location. Choose to Replace → the current one if you did not delete the previous version.

3- Update Theme Via WordPress

  1. You need to deactivate the current Publisher theme in the Appearance → Themes section by simply activating a different theme. Once you activate a different theme, you can delete the Publisher theme. Don’t worry, your content will not be lost.
  2. Retrieve the publisher.zip file from your new ThemeForest downloaded (only theme file) and extract the file to get the Publisher theme folder.
  3. Then simply upload the publisher.zip file in the Appearance → Themes section. Click on the Install Themes tab at the top and choose to upload the zip file.
  4. Once it uploaded, activate it. You’re done!
One common mistake in installing theme via WordPress is, trying to upload downloaded package from ThemeForest.net as theme file. This leads to an error from WordPress; this error usually seems like this “The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.”. Just upload publisher.zip file, not the whole downloaded package. Read more at What’s included.
